Scene Description: Royal Engineers Repair River Ford - Madjez El Bab, Tunisia - A party of British Royal Engineers repairs a river ford at Medjez El Bab. When Axis forces retired from the city in the face of a heavy Allied attack, they blew craters in this same ford. As British Engineers repaired it, German artillery and dive bombers subjected it to heavy fire doing little damage and causing only one casualty. Here, the engineers are placing a "Grillage", or floor on the river bed between the stakes marking the ford. January 19th 1943.
